The video elaborates on the collaboration between Sønderborg Fjernvarme and Dall Energy

Since 2007, Sønderborg Municipality has worked towards making the municipality CO2-neutral. As part of the municipality's green ambitions, Sønderborg District Heating invested in Dall Energy's innovative biomass gasification technology in 2014.

Our gasification furnace enables a wide range of biomass to be burned, even when it has a high ash and water content. The plant in Sønderborg has shown for many years that it can run on different types of fuel to produce environmentally friendly and cheaper district heating. The technology ensures clean combustion and emissions far below the existing limits for NOX, dust and CO. The small amount of carbon in the ash from the production in Sønderborg documented efficient combustion regardless of whether the furnace is running at 10% or 100% capacity. The collaboration between Sønderborg District Heating and Dall Energy also included a research project with the University of Copenhagen and Carlsberg, among others. The project involved investigating the combustion potential of alternative fuels.

A successful biomass gasification furnace with low expenses

The biomass gasification furnace produces a significant part of the heat consumed in the local district heating network.

Sønderborg Fjernvarme also operates grate-incineration boilers, so the Sønderborg plant has documented the low maintenance costs compared to a grate-incineration boiler. This is because there is no grate to maintain, and the brickwork provides excellent operating conditions.

Symbiosis between biomass technology and solar heating

Dall Energy was responsible for designing and specifying the biomass gasification furnace including the fuel feeder. For many years now, the heating plant has delivered sustainable heat in synergy with the installed solar thermal plants, and with oil boilers as peak load units.
