Unification of solar energy and gasification technology

The second largest solar heating plant in the world is in Silkeborg, Denmark. The plant is operated by Silkeborg Forsyning, which entered into a contract with Dall Energy in January 2023. The district heating network will use Dall Energy’s biomass gasification plant to optimize their heat production in conjunction with solar heating and heat pumps.

Dall Energy’s delivery for Silkeborg is a turnkey project which includes everything from fuel management with cranes, biomass gasification furnace, boiler, scrubber, quench to a stack.  

 

The moment Dall Energy signed a contract with Silkeborg Forsyning immortalised.

The Dall Energy plant is flexible in any weather conditions

"When the sun is obscured by clouds, we need heating sources. On the other hand, when the sun is high in the sky, we may need to reduce our heating production" - Mogens Lyhne, project manager at Silkeborg Forsyning. 

This is why Dall Energy’s technology is ideal for adapting to seasonal and weather changes throughout the year. This is because the plant can be adjusted up or down in power depending on the demand for heat. Dall Energy's plants can be regulated down to a 10% load and can be adjusted up and down quite quickly, which is not possible with a traditional grate-fired plant, which can typically only go down to a 30% load.

By combining Dall Energy’s unique technology with two electrical heat pumps, they will achieve a 25% improvement in the efficiency of the heat pumps. The low COP level of the heat pumps in winter will be improved by utilizing hot water from the Dall Energy plant and, conversely, using the cold water in the Dall Energy condensation plant.
